Huhu War Canoe Festival

27TH TO 29TH AUGUST, 2022

The 6th Huhu War Canoe Festival in magical Milne Bay Province is a rare two-day event specially created by the Huhu people of West Tawala, Ealebe, East Tawala and Buhutu.

Experience the Huhu culture in an intimate, authentic village setting and be enriched by the interaction with the local people and cultural displays of traditional dancing, food exchange and so much more.

This year's event takes place from August 27th to 29th at Maiwara village.  Festival visitors can expect to see traditional war canoes with warriors on board demonstrating paddling techniques and reenacting the infamous cannibal war raids just as their Huhu ancestors did hundreds of years ago.

Festival organizers advise that transport to the festival grounds will be available via dinghy from Alotau to Maiwara which will take 15-20 minutes and costing 7-8 kina one-way.
