DON'T LET THESE BEAUTIES FLUTTER BY YOU
Ondahari Village, about 40 minutes north of Popondetta, is home to the largest butterfly in the world, the Queen Alexandra birdwing. You’ll be astounded by its 25cm wingspan and three similar species fluttering their wings in the old growth rainforest. Ondahari has a village guesthouse if you’d like to stay a while in butterfly country. With the rainforest diminishing to make way for oil palm plantations, this fragile species is rare and on the endangered list.
